I’ve always had a history of hyper-acidity  (also known as acid dyspepsia) since high school. I don’t know when or how did I get it, all I know is just it’s screwing me for over a decade. I am a slow-gainer. I was very skinny back in my elementary days. My mom let me tried different kinds of vitamins but none of them took effect on me. My dad is an OFW back then and when he comes home he jokingly asks my mom if she’s still feeding her kids because me and my only brother look like bamboo sticks (that’s what our bullies called us because we’re thin and tall) even if we get to eat whatever we want. Maybe we have a fast metabolism which everybody envies about especially now that I have kids already, eating everything that I want and still not getting fat. I remember the times that I’ve been hospitalized because of hyper-acidity. The doctor will always come up to a theory that I might be skipping meals but honestly not. Our family has a very strong bond with each other. We hang out as often as we could, and as much as possible we’re hanging out altogether. Even my eldest Ken spends his whole day at school; we always find ways to get him with us because we simply feel incomplete if one member of the family wasn’t able to join. If one of my kids needs a hair cut, we’re heading off altogether. When we feel like we want to eat something in the middle of the night, we go to the nearest convenience store altogether. But what we like the most is of course, going to the mall. Who doesn’t like malling? Everybody does.

I still remember my childhood memories like it just happened yesterday. Our neighbors always come up to us and look for my mom to have their hair cut, or manicure and pedicure . She does all of this in our living room or a home service if the client preferred. Since there is no hair rebond, hair spa or cellophane treatment that time, it was always just a hair cut or hair curls. My mom took up a short vocational course in hair dressing when she married my dad at the age of 20 so me and my only brother grew up seeing her styling her own hair and even cutting her own hair by just facing the mirror and a few twists and turns of her arms then she’s done…magnificently.

This is an open letter for my best friend who chose to be an OFW because of the very limited opportunities here in the Philippines. This is the first time that we will be away from each other and I know this is gonna be very hard for the two of us. I made a letter for her before she leaves that will going to be a constant reminder of our memories and how strong are we to face these obstacles. My Dearest Best Friend,              I am in deep grievance whenever the truth sinks into my mind that finally, you are leaving.

ABS-CBN has come up with a new TV series called BUDOY. I can say that this is one of the brilliant teleseryes made by one of the largest networks here in the Philippines. This is about the journey of BUDOY which is played by Gerald Anderson , one of the brightest young stars of his generation, has made a remarkable portrayal with his role of being a special child. The story is actually about a husband and wife, played by Zsa Zsa Padilla and Tirso Cruz III, who desperately want to have a child but unfortunately, after doing so many fertility procedures, none of them has worked. The husband (Dr. Anton Maniego) who married his secretary (Luisa) decided to consider an IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) as a last option even though the procedure might be so risky for the child. Maniego family who are known for a well-respected family of doctors contradicts the idea because no one had taken the risk to do an IVF ever in the country’s history.
